A Short Story

Part 1

A river. The slowly flowing river. A lady is fishing in the river and putting the fish in a plastic tin. The number of fish caught in the net varies each time. If she catches ten to twelve fish at one time, only two to three fish are caught in the net at another time.

A closer look suggests that the woman is about 60 years old. She is so old but she has not given up. She is fishing and gathering fish. Because if she doesn't fish today and take it to the market, she will have to starve. For her, this work is a daily task.

Her house is by the river. The house is a hut made of bamboo and thatch. When it rains, water falls through the roof of the house. The inside is flooded and the clothes get wet. There is a palm tree in a corner of the yard and four or five coconut trees. A cucumber plant is climbing the fence.

The house is far from the village. She has nothing to do with the villagers. She hasn't called anyone and hasn't had a relationship with anyone. She lives alone. She catches fish from the river every morning and earns her living by selling the fish in the daily market.

She wasn't like that before. She respected everyone equally. She was in joy all the time. She also had a happy married life. She had a happy family with her husband and a son. She had beautiful dreams about him. But the rule of fate was that her husband was returning home from the market with the son on the bicycle when a truck hit her husband and child from behind. They both died on the spot. Since then, darkness has come into her life. Her husband's relatives took away her share of the land and property. Her family members began to call her a bad woman. And one day, her mother-in-law and father-in-law took advantage of the opportunity to drive her out of the house. She approaches the village elders and the people seeking justice. But they don't get any help. Therefore, he built a hut on the banks of the river and lived alone.

She puts the tin of fish in the yard and goes inside and eats some food.

She tied the door with a rope hanging from the door of the house.

She put the tin of fish on their bicycle carriage and headed to the market.
